YOUTH UNITED is a comprehensive summer
program to engage youth ages 13-17 in community stewardship. Two teams of 9
youth have been given the opportunity to complete a ‘task’ for an area
non-profit.
The program is run in
conjunction with the Elk River YMCA and Caring Rivers United Way. YOUTH
UNITED is a unique program where students learn group work, gain new skills,
and have an impact on their community.
ELK RIVER
TEAM 1. This Youth United group chose to
help ‘makeover’ the recreation room at MacGregor Place (group home for
individuals with developmental disabilities). MacGregor Place is managed by
Opportunity Partners and is located at 497 Gates Ave, Elk River. Students
will be painting the walls, buying new rec. equipment and giving the room an
overall facelift.
PRINCETON
Team 2. This Youth United chose to
‘makeover’ the children’s area at Belle Haven Townhomes which are located at
101 18th Ave N. in Princeton. These townhomes are for
individuals with children who are coming out of treatment. These families
are homeless and find a home at Belle Haven. Currently, there are 18 adults
and 33 children living at Belle Haven. Youth decided to help paint and
refresh the children’s area, as well as help enhance the play area outside.
Each team has been given $1,000 to assist
in their project. Upon completion teams will report to a panel of judges who
will evaluate the projects.
Local Judges are:
